Wraplet guide
How Word Count and Character Count Are Calculated
Understand how online word counters count words, characters, spaces, sentences, and paragraphs for drafts and writing limits.
Word count basics
Most word counters split text into non-empty chunks separated by whitespace. This works well for everyday writing, essays, posts, descriptions, and notes.
Punctuation usually stays attached to the word it follows, so 'hello!' still counts as one word.
Characters, sentences, and paragraphs
Character count with spaces includes letters, numbers, punctuation, spaces, and line breaks. Character count without spaces removes whitespace before counting.
Sentence and paragraph counts are estimates based on punctuation and line breaks, which is enough for most writing and SEO checks.
Frequently asked questions

Does Wraplet save pasted text?
No. The word counter is designed to run in your browser and does not save your pasted text.
